Below is a collection of various professional development opportunities I have attended over the years. I love attending professional development and enjoy always trying to find that one take away from each event. I have only included events that were not required by my school. 2016 and 2020

Through this online training from Google, I learned how to better integrate technology into my classroom. In addition, I also received information on how to implement technology into my school on a whole and train other teachers using technology. This certification gave me concrete ideas and resources to implement in my role as a technology integrator.

Teach your Heart Out was held in Nashville, TN. During this conference, I connect with various educators who taught similar subjects to mine. I also attended sessions varying in topics from classroom management to technology in the classroom. I learned about how classroom decoration should not be stagnant, but should engage learners through interaction. From this session, I make sure that my bulletin boards have a purpose and students can interact with them.

Held in Raleigh, NC this conference was all about literacy in the classroom. Sessions led by Jen Jones, Brad Waid, Kami Butterfield, and Kayla Dornfield focused on a variety of topics, but always led back to literacy. This conference was a great opportunity to meet other local teachers. One takeaway was the power and importance of teaching students to inference and how that can be done through photos. Teaching history through primary source writings can be difficult, but viewing photos first and inferencing what is happening makes comprehension easier for students.

Held annually in July every year this conference was an opportunity to interact and engage with other Christian school educators. These conferences always provided resources that we could access as private schools. It was always great to interact with other educators who were using the same curriculum to gather new ideas on how to make the lessons more engaging.

The seminar that I attended was called "Slavery and the U.S. Constitution. This seminar was held at James Madison's Montpelier in Virginia. It was an intensive 3-day seminar that focused on how slavery affected the constitution and how the constitution and laws changed after the abolishment of slavery. All information was based on primary source documents that we read before the conference. The seminar helped to give me a better understanding of our country's history which gave me the ability to teach my students more effectively about slavery and its history in the United States.

In April of 2016, I attended a seminar entitled, "First Peoples and the U.S. Constitution." This intensive 3-day seminar taught by a First People Historian focused on how the First People reacted to settlers and why the Constitution largely ignores the First Peoples. In addition, we focused on the effects that it has on the Nations today. This seminar gave me the background that I had never received. It empowered me to more accurately teach about how the founding of the United States affected the Nations that were already present.

I attended this conference in Winston-Salem, NC. This was my first professional conference I attended. This conference focused on giving teachers hands on tools to increase student learning. I attended sessions that focused on vocabulary, available in state science resources, and circuits. The sessions that affected my practice the most was the one of the vocabulary session. As you can see in the photo above I implemented the stragetry of having students sort examples, non-examples, characterics, and definitions for the different vocab words. This is my favorite pre and post assessment tool of new vocabulary words.

May 2015

This was my first online conference that I attended. This conference was held through the use of live streaming. Enabling participants to ask questions in real-time and replay sessions. Held in May of 2015, I learned more about Google apps that were just emerging and chrome extensions to help teachers use technology more effectively. I learned about extensions like doctopus, goobrics, and more. I also learned about self-pacing students through the use of online education and how it can benefit students and teachers.
